RIC 39b
Obv: CONSTANTINVS•FIL•AVGG
Rev: VIRTVTI E-XERCITVS - Mars, advancing right in military dress,
holding transverse spear in right hand and trophy over left shoulder.
•SM•TS• in exergue; ✳ in left field, Δ in right
26 mm, 7.2 g.
Note: Listed in RIC as Virtus
on the reverse, it is more likely Mars.
Virtus is female, and is usually depicted in military
dress with one breast bare. Mars is usually shown walking, nude but
with cloak and boots. To my knowledge, Virtus is never depicted holding
a trophy.
