Alexander the Great

Probably one of the most important leaders in western history, Alexander III ("the Great") forged the first true western empire, combining the small, independent city-states of Macedonia and Greece with Persia, western India and North Africa. The subsequent blending of eastern and western cultures, economies and political structures created a flourishing empire that set the stage for the expansion of Roman rule in the following centuries.
