Carausius was one of Maximian’s generals, responsible for suppressing the Frankish piracy plaguing the Western Empire. He decided to rebel when he received word that Maximian had ordered his execution because of supposed corruption. His uprising was tolerated by Rome for a while, but when events started to go against him he was murdered by Allectus, one of his generals. Return |
