RIC 10 19mm, 3.6g. Crispus was the eldest son of Constantine the Great. He was a skillful general, and his elevation to Caesar in A.D. 317 set the stage for his eventual succession to emperor. Unfortunately, he fell victim to his stepmother’s treachery, who duped his father into believing he was conspiring against him. Constantine had him executed for treason in 326, which eventually he regretted bitterly. Return |
