Geta Caesar, A.D. 198-209 Augustus, A.D. 209-212 Silver Denarius Rome mint, A.D. 198-200 Obv: L SEPTIMIVS GETA CAES Rev: SPES PVBLICA - Spes, advancing left, holding flower and raising skirt RIC 4 18mm, 3.4g. The son of Septimus Severus and Julia Domna, and the brother of Caracalla, Geta spent the bulk of his life quarreling with his brother, much to his parents' chagrin. After Severus' death and Caracalla and Geta's elevation as co-emperors, the enmity between the two became even greater, often leading to the brink of open warfare. Geta was eventually murdered by Caracalla in front of their mother after being lured by him to a meeting, supposedly intended as an attempt at reconciliation. Nice family. Return |
