Postumus Augustus, A.D. 260-269 Silver Double Denarius Lugdunum mint Obv: IMP C POSTVMVS P F AVG Rev: NEPTVNO REDVCI - Nepture, standing, facing left, holding dolphin in right hand and trident in left; prow of ship at feet RIC 76 23mm, 3.7g What goes around comes around. Postumus took advantage of the chaos caused by the capture of Valerian by the Persians to form his own breakaway republic in Gaul, Spain and, eventually, Britain. At first he was attacked by Roman forces, then tolerated for a while and then, when it became obvious that he wasn't satisfied with his own republic but had plans to take over the whole empire, attacked again. It was during this second wave of attacks by the Roman army that Postumus had to cope with a usurper within his own republic, setting into action a chain of events that ended in Postumus' murder by his own troops.
