Titus ascended to the throne after the death of his father, Vespasian. His short reign is noted mostly for the disasters that befell during it, including plague, fire, and the famous eruption of Mount Vesuvius, which destroyed the towns of Pompeii and Herculaneum. The meaning of his cryptic last words, “I have only done one thing wrong,” remains a mystery to this day. He is one of the “12 Caesars.” Return |
