Valentinian I

The declaration by his troops of Valentinian I as emperor upon the death of Jovian marked the end of the Constantine dynasty and the beginning of the Valentinian dynasty. He fought many successful battles against barbarian invaders in the West and gave control of the Eastern half of the empire to his younger brother, Valens.
