The Goofy-Looking Tree Bark Photo Contest

They're just about everywhere. They pull carbon dioxide out of the atmosphere and use the carbon to build their cells. They return left-over oxygen to the atmosphere for us to breathe. They provide food, shade and shelter to countless animals, including us.

Trees are one of our planet's greatest gifts.

Why don't we all have a good laugh at their expense?
Announcing: The Goofy-Looking Tree Bark Photo Contest!

Seal

Rules:
Seriously? You want rules for a goofy-looking tree bark photo contest?
Okay, fine. Let's see what we can come up with. Um . . . how about these:
Go for a walk in the park or in the woods somewhere, or maybe just around your neighborhood.
Take a photo of any tree you see with goofy-looking bark.
Send the photos along with your snarky comments to gsimonelli@leffellschool.org.
You can even send in comments about other people's photos, too. The goofier, the better! But please include the photo # with your comments so I'll know which one you're talking about.
I will post all appropriate photos and comments on this page.
Actually, some people might think that it's not appropriate to make fun of trees. In that case, I'll post innapropriate photos, too.
Winners:
Anyone who sends a photo or comment, or who reads this page and enjoys it, will be considered a winner. Pat yourself on the back and say: "Good job."

Gabriel couldn't help pointing out how goofy the bark looks on this poor tree:
Gabriel
Gabriel writes that the tree is on the Old Croton Aquaduct trail, right behind his house, and that he oftens walks or bikes past it.
Personally, I don't think I'd want to get too close to that ugly monster.

Belle has sent in two new photos of trees for us to laught at. (The trees, that is; not the photos):
Tree #13
Belle #2
Belle wrote: "They are in love." Ahh, ain't that sweet?
Tree #14
Belle #3
"Spiral like tree with an arm."

Belle submitted this tree's photo for your disapproval:

Belle's comments: "Doing a back flip. Show off." Looks dangerous, too.

Principal Hoory sent in this photo of a really mixed-up tree:
Tree #11

She wrote: "I can only imagine what this tree is thinking."  Are you sure you want to know, Principal Hoory?
Dahlia sent in these photos of some ridiculous looking tree bark.
Tree #9
Dahlia #1
Looks like we have a couple of candidates for ridicule in this photo.
Tree #10
Dahlia #2
Okay, now that's just showing off.
Thanks for sending these in, Dahlia. I'm sure we all had a good laugh at these trees.
Ava sent in these next three photos along with some pretty snarky comments:
Tree #6
Ava #1
Ava wrote: "Somebody stole my clothes!"
Tree #7
Ava #2
"Wait . . .What's you name again?"
Tree #8
Ava #3
"I'm not peeling well!"
I gotta admit, Ava, that's some pretty goofy-looking tree bark. But your comments are hilarious.
Caleb submitted this photo of some tree bark trying to pass itself off as modern art:
Tree #5
Caleb's Tree
Can you say "Pretentious"?
Eliana has submitted photographs of 4 different tress for you to ridicule. Talk about goofy bark! Eliana's snarky comments about these trees are writtin below the photos.
Tree #1:
Eliana #1
Eliana said: "Is this a tree or a bush? I don't know, but I do know that I'm standing inside of it!"
Tree #2
Eliana #3
"Oh my gosh! This tree looks like it captured a wailing child in its branches! Let him/her go, wicked tree!"
Tree #3:
Eliana #2
"Did this tree ever use moisturizer? This tree is full of bumps and weirdly shaped branches."
Tree #4:
Eliana #4
"Put some clothes on tree!"

WE HAVE A WINNER! Great photos, Eliana. You've gotten our contest off to a rollicking start.

Have you got photos? Comments about the trees already phtographed here? Send your photos AND comments to gsimonelli@leffellschool.com and I will post them on this page.

Here are some examples that I took to get everyone started:
Example A:
goofy #1
I took this photo because the texture of the bark reminds me of
my face when I was in high school.
Example B:
goofy #2
These two trees clearly need to bathe more often.
Example C:
goofy #3
Lips? Really? On a tree?!?
Example D:
Goofy #4
This bush is called winged euonymous. It's also called burning bush.
I'm including it here because the bark is . . . well, it's just plain weird.

Example D, close up:
Goofy #4 close up
Maybe you can see how strange this bark is a little better in close up.
Seriously, what were these bushes thinking?

Send us your photos AND comments!
