Mark Anthony is one of the most famous names in Western history. His love affair with Cleopatra is legendary, and he is a central character in Shakespear’s play Julius Caesar. Unfortunately, his abilities as a general are less than legendary. Although a competent tactician, he tended to overestimate his strength and abilities, which ultimately led to disastrous misjudgements after the death of Julius Caesar. He was finally defeated by Octavian Augustus in a famous battle at Actium. Return |
